Prison Ministry

The Prison Ministry at Vandalia Correctional Center was initiated by Phyllis Rames beginning in June of 1992. Every Tuesday afternoon the volunteers go out to the Correctional Center to meet with approximately 40 residents with around 65 being on the list. They do not all attend every Tuesday due to various reasons (sickness, visits from friends & family, work schedule, school, etc.) The volunteers consist of the following persons: Sharon Mueller, Sharon LaDage, Carolyn Daniels, Jim Staff, and Joyce Staff.

The format for study consists of a presentation by the leader and then the residents are allowed to discuss the subject or add any information. We find the group to be very well informed, knowledgeable, and delightful. The afternoon begins with the Praise Band playing several lively numbers accompanied with singing. Certificates of Attendance are awarded to the residents who attend five consecutive sessions. They seem to treasure this recognition. The volunteers as well as the residents receive spiritual growth through this ministry.
